Training as a Union Electrician isn’t just about wires and conduit. It’s about establishing a career foundation that enables flexibility and growth. Our graduates have options when building their career. Some will use their training and experience to move into an office position with a signatory contractor or possibly become a signatory contractor themselves.  Electricians that have completed our curriculum are found working in complex data centers, installing sterile hospital system cmponents, building state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment or climbing the towers of major wireless communication providers. Illinois’ recent boom in Renewable Energy has ensured work in many of the solar fields, electric vehicle charging stations, and smart buildings found across our state.

Our students come from a variety of ages and backgrounds. Our program is particularly attractive as a debt-free college alternative for those coming from high school or college since our students earn dual college credit, but there are many among our team that have decided on a career change later in life due to the pay and benefits, or because they simply enjoy working with their hands and are tired of being behind a desk all day.

Why Choose Union?

In addition to becoming one of the most qualified in the industry, as a Local 134 trained electrician, you will appreciate the many benefits that ECA and Local 134 have worked together to offer: better healthcare benefits and wages (typically 27% higher than non-union counterparts), better retirement pensions, and a collective voice in contract negotiations with employers. Most importantly, you will belong to a sister and brotherhood that works to care for one another.
